Abstract Submission Guideline

 

Information for presenters

 

  1. Please use the appropriate submission forms: Abstract Submission Form [Original Research] or Abstract Submission Form [Other Presentations]

  2. Plenary refers to hour-long lecture. The plenary speakers will be invited by the organisers.

  3. Symposium refers to 1.5 hour-long presentations consisting of two to three short lectures by different presenters. The mini-lectures must complement each other and focus on the chosen topic. Presenters may form their own group and submit a single abstract.

  4. Workshop refers to 1.5 hour-long interactive sessions focusing on a specific skill or a demonstration. Active participants involved in the learning activities or demonstration is expected. In some workshops, the learning objectives may be continuous over several sessions (e.g. research and medical writing)

Each workshop may be conducted by one or more presenter. In the skill-based workshop, presenters should bring their own equipment or teaching aids. Kindly inform the organisers earlier if you need special audio-visual support or seating arrangement.

5. Free paper presentation refers to the sharing of original research findings that have not been previously published or presented. Participants may choose oral presentation or poster presentation. As the slots available for oral presentation is limited, some requests for oral presentation may be switched to poster presentation.

6. Presenting authors must pay the registration fee and attend the meeting. 

7. All submissions will be reviewed by the scientific committee. 

8. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Malaysian Family Physician, the official journal of the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia. ​

A general guide on abstract submission

 

Abstract Submission Form [Original Research]

  1. Use this form if your presentation is an original research (“Free Paper”).

  2. The abstract must be in clear English and checked for grammatical and spelling errors.

  3. Font: Use Times New Roman, point 12, single spacing.

  4. Please indicate whether you prefer oral or poster presentation. The Scientific Committee reserved the right to allocate the presentation mode.

  5. Title: Use sentence case.

  6. Authorship:

            a. Please underline the name of the presenter. The presenter must be a conference registrant.

            b. Please provide short names in the form suitable for indexing, see example below.  

            c. Please make sure all authors contributed significantly to the research project (as per ICMJE guidelines).

  7. Affiliations: Please provide job titles and affiliations of all authors, see example below.

  8. Email: Please provide the email of the corresponding author and identify his/her name.

  9. Abstract:

            a. Provide a brief structured abstract with the following subheadings: Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusion.

            b. Use standard abbreviations in parentheses after the full word the first time it appears.

            c. Make sure word count is 300 words or less.

            d. Do not provide references or acknowledgement.

Provide not more than five keywords (preferably PubMed Medical Subject Headings).

 

Prior to submission, please ensure that all authors agree with the following terms:

  • Aware that their names will appear on the abstract and all authors agree to the submission and presentation of the results.

  • Understand that the poster and/or oral presentation may be recorded via any medium during the presentation.

  • Understand that all possible copyright and patent issues should be resolved before submission.

 

Oral Presentation Guidelines

Time allocated: Oral presentations is 8 minutes plus 4 minutes for questions from the judges.

 

Poster Presentation Guidelines

A1 Size in Portrait (Approximately height 33.1 x width 23.4 inches; height 84.1 x width 59.4 cm)

Guidelines for Presenters: Double-sided tapes or thumbtacks needed for mounting posters will be provided upon request. The author is responsible for mounting and removal of their posters. The organizer will not be responsible for any poster that may be damaged or lost upon removal.

  1. Use this form if your presentation is either a plenary, a symposium or a workshop.

  2. The abstract must be in English.

  3. Font: Use Times New Roman, point 12, single spacing.

  4. Title: Use sentence case.

  5. Presenters.

            a. Please underline the name of the presenter. The presenter must be a conference registrant.

            b. Please provide names in the form suitable for indexing, see the example for “Original Research”.

  6. Affiliations: Please provide job titles and affiliations of all presenters, see the example for “Original Research”.

  7. Email: Please provide the email of the corresponding person and identify his/her name.

  8. Abstract:

            a. The abstract need not be structured but should highlight the objectives and the main take-home message. The subtopics covered within the symposium or workshop should focus on one key topic. Separate abstract may be submitted for each subtopic is the presenter think it is necessary.

            b. Use standard abbreviations in parentheses after the full word the first time it appears.

            c. Make sure each abstract word count is 300 words or less.

            d. Do not provide references or acknowledgement.

            e. Provide not more five keywords (preferably PubMed Medical Subject Headings)
