Dear Colleagues and Esteemed Guests,

On behalf of the organising committee, I am very happy to welcome you to the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM’s) Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) & 9th Asia Pacific Primary Care Research Conference (APPCRC) which will be held at Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel on the 2nd-4th June 2023.

The main aim of AFPM has always been to improve the health standard of the fellow Malaysian citizens by empowering the primary care doctors on sharing knowledge and skills. After a hibernation of a few years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to be reconnected again physically in delivering and sharing of primary care knowledge.

This will be the first time that the annual scientific meeting will be held simultaneously with APPCRC, so that we can bring the best talented primary medical care speakers to you on these days.

The theme of this year’s ASM conference is “Gems of General Practice that Sustaineth and Sootheth in Storms “.

The Covid-19 pandemic has created a tumultuous storm and huge challenges for the nation. The primary care doctors and general practitioners, being the first line in contact with the assault, rose to the occasion to assist in the fight against the onslaught through perseverance. The storm has been tamed now. It is a known fact now that the primary health care doctors and general practitioners are the gems of the nation.

With this theme, various programs that are arranged during this scientific meeting will be geared towards empowering our primary care doctors further so that they will be ready to help whenever the need arises.

We have arranged very comprehensive topics that will be delivered by the great primary care experts. Some of the interesting topics are: Readiness of GP post-pandemic, Dialogue with GP Gems, Striking a balance in GP work, Palliative Care, Ageing & Sexual Health, Big data and AI Technology , Exam Workshop and Primary Care Research in the new norm.

With this year’s theme, we hope that our participants will gain insight not just only into improving their medical scale, but also to deliver compassionate medical care to their patients.

We hope you can take this opportunity to attend the conference to learn, share and to shape the future of primary care with AFPM.
We would also love to express our sincere thanks to the scientific committee team, which is led by Associate Professor Dr Chew Boon How and the support of the AFPM’s office staff.

The organising committee will take all actions for the smooth running of this meeting and the success largely rests on the collective effort of our AFPM members and primary care providers.

I would like to pen this quote by Henry Ford, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.”

Dear Colleagues and Esteemed Guests,

On behalf of the scientific committee, I am thrilled to announce the upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting of 2023 (ASM 2023), with the theme "Gems of General Practice that Sustaineth and Sootheth in Storms". It is my great pleasure to invite you to ASM 2023.

General practitioners play an essential role in the healthcare system, and the recent global events have highlighted the importance of their work even further. This meeting aims to showcase the best practices and innovations that have sustained and soothed patients, as well as all clinicians and medical professionals related to the general practice and primary medical care in challenging times.

The event promises to be an insightful and engaging experience for all attendees. I am excited to share the conference's highlights with you. The program includes a wide variety of activities, with 7 plenaries, 4 symposiums, 4 workshops and 2 forums, all cantered around the professional practices and personal

aspects of general practitioners. We have gathered a distinguished group of experts to present their latest research, insights, and practical experiences in the field of family practice and primary medical care. Our Plenary 1 on the Family Practices after the MOH White Paper, will provide attendees with insights into the latest developments in this important area, while Forum 2 will provide a unique opportunity to engage with GP-Gems, who are successful GPs from Malaysia providing high-quality primary medical care. Do check out the rest of the scientific programmes.

We are seeking abstract submissions from a diverse range of scientific research from general practice experts, including researchers, practitioners, educators, and trainees to present their latest findings and innovative approaches to patient care. Our aim is to provide a platform for lively discussions and knowledge sharing, as we explore the latest trends and best practices in general practice, family practice and primary medical care.

With the varied and engaging sessions planned, I am confident that our conference will be an exciting and enlightening experience for all participants. We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a memorable event. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with colleagues, share your knowledge and contribute to the advancement of general practice.

Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the organising committee, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the 9th Asia Pacific Primary Care Research Conference hosted by the Malaysian Primary Care Research Group, an ancillary group of the Academy of Family Physicians Malaysia.

The theme of the conference this year is “Research in the New Norm”, aptly chosen in line with the advancement in information technologies since the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aim is to guide researchers in conducting research following new norms and using digital technologies.

The conference will be held on the 3rd to 4th of June, 2023 (Saturday and Sunday) and will be preceded by the Research Championship Workshop on the 2nd of June, 2023 (Friday).

The research championship workshop is specifically designed for budding researchers to build and enhance their research projects. Experienced researchers from the Asia Pacific region will guide them. Selected groups will have the opportunity to present their proposed projects with chances of winning exciting prizes.

We look forward to welcoming participants across the globe, particularly from the Asia Pacific region, to share their research projects, especially those conducted during the last two challenging years.

See you in June!
