Programme:
Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine (GCFM)

Graduate Certificate of Family Medicine (GCFM), previously known as Diploma in Family Medicine (DFM) is a 2-year (four semesters) programme structured distance-learning programme for all general practitioners, designed to raise their level of knowledge, attitudes, practices and skills towards achieving the status of being a trained general practitioner. This achievement is in keeping with MOH's current proposals for a reformed healthcare system.

NOTE:​
GCFM endeavours to accept all candidates who apply if they fulfil the entry criteria. However, if the number of applicants exceeds our capacity to train,  then applicants may be advised to be enrolled in the next intake.

The Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM) would like to inform all members about several important updates regarding the 2026 training programme intake:

1. Single Intake for GCFM starting in 2026

  • There will be only one intake in 2026, scheduled for July 2026.

  • The Board of Censors (BOC) will extend the offer to all approved applications for the January 2026 intake to the July 2026 intake.

     

2. Ministry of Health Employees

  • All Ministry of Health (MOH) employees are required to apply for the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) program.

  • The HLP application window will open in mid-September 2025.

  • Those who do not succeed in obtaining HLP will not be allowed to register for the GCFM.

     

3. Application for GCFM July 2026 Intake

  • Applications are now open for the GCFM July 2026 intake.

  • The closing date for applications is 30 November 2025.

4. Pre-Entry Assessment (New Requirement)

  • Beginning with the July 2026 intake, a Pre-Entry Assessment will be required.

  • This assessment will consist of online Single Best Answer (SBA) questions and will be held in January 2026.

  • Further updates regarding this assessment will be provided in November 2025.

     

5. Training Site Accreditation (New Requirement)

  • Starting in 2026, all clinics for GCFM, ATFM, and Conjoint Exam trainees must undergo Training Site Accreditation to qualify as approved training centres.

  • The BOC will update members on training site accreditation in due course.

     

6. Compliance with Medical Act Amendments

  • Following the recent amendments to the Medical Act, all training sites must be registered with the BPKK.

  • Trainees must regularly update their practice details with the programme coordinators.
