Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine (GCFM)

Graduate Certificate of Family Medicine (GCFM), previously known as Diploma in Family Medicine (DFM) is a 2-year (four semesters) programme structured distance-learning programme for all general practitioners, designed to raise their level of knowledge, attitudes, practices and skills towards achieving the status of being a trained general practitioner. This achievement is in keeping with MOH's current proposals for a reformed healthcare system.

IMPORTANT NOTE:​


Currently AFPM is working with MOH Bahagian Latihan to stream line the training for Family Medicine in alignment with MMC-SSR (Family Medicine) for September 2026 intake onwards.


Do expect some changes that will be announced soon. Our potential candidates are advised to be patient and we will update you once the discussion is finalized.

GCFM JULY 2026 INTAKE

CLOSING DATE: 31 JANUARY 2026

ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM) would like to inform all members

about several important updates regarding the 2026 training programme intake:

1

Single Intake for GCFM starting in 2026

  • There will be only one intake in 2026, scheduled for July 2026.

  • The Board of Censors (BOC) will extend the offer to all approved applications for the January 2026 intake to the July 2026 intake.

Ministry of Health Employees

  • All Ministry of Health (MOH) employees are required to apply for the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) program.

  • The HLP application window will open in mid-September 2025.

  • Those who do not succeed in obtaining HLP will not be allowed to register for the GCFM.

Application for GCFM July 2026 Intake

  • Applications are now open for the GCFM July 2026 intake.

  • The closing date for application is 30 November 2025.

Training Site Accreditation (New Requirement)

  • Starting in 2026, all clinics for GCFM, ATFM, and Conjoint Exam trainees must undergo Training Site Accreditation to qualify as approved training centres.

  • The BOC will update members on training site accreditation in due course.

Compliance with Medical Act Amendments

  • Following the recent amendments to the Medical Act, all training sites must be registered with the BPKK.

  • Trainees must regularly update their practice details with the programme coordinators.

UPDATE ON PRE-ENROLMENT EXAMINATION FOR GCFM PROGRAMME

The Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM) wishes to inform all prospective applicants that the previously announced Pre-Enrolment Examination for the Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine (GCFM) WILL NOT BE HELD.

After further review and internal deliberation, AFPM has decided to withdraw the examination requirement for this intake. All applicants may proceed with the standard GCFM enrolment process as outlined in the programme guidelines.

We also wish to announce that there will only be ONE (1) intake for GCFM starting from 2026.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding. For further clarification, kindly contact the AFPM Secretariat.
